Alyssa signs with Chinese Taipei club team

Philippines – Filipina volleyball star Alyssa Valdez is headed to Taiwan to play for the Attack Line club team.

The former Ateneo de Manila University star told Umagang Kay Ganda's Gretchen Ho that she has already “closed a deal” with the club early Monday morning.

“I'm going to be there for the next few months,” said Valdez, who is fresh off a stint with the national team in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.

This marks the second time that Valdez will play as an “import” for a club team, having suited up for 3BB Nakornnont in Thailand last year.

According to Valdez, coaches from the Chinese Taipei club were asking her to play for them as far back as May 2015, when they saw her play in the Asian Women's Under-23 Volleyball Championship in Manila.

“They asked me to go there, but I had one more playing year for the UAAP, so nag-stay ako dito,” she explained. “Ngayong, noong AVC (Asian Seniors Championship), nagkita-kita ulit kami, so they asked me if I could go there nga.”

Valdez is now asking for support and prayers as she opens another chapter in her volleyball career.

“Hopefully, madaming mga Pinoy na makita tayo doon, para I really feel at home,” said Valdez. “Sana, ipagdasal niyo ako, para maganda ang maipakita natin sa Chinese-Taipei.”

Valdez leaves for Chinese-Taipei on October 5. Her stint formally begins on October 20, and will last until December.
