Duterte to fire a ‘chairman’ this week

Duterte to fire a ‘chairman’ this week: The back-to-back dismissal of government officials continues.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday announced he is set to fire another “chairman” of a government agency this week as part of his intense campaign against corrupt officials.

Duterte made the remarks in his speech before high-ranking executives of the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp. The president, however, declined to give more details about the official who will be terminated nor the reason for the dismissal.

Duterte also repeated his plan to axe “another set” of policemen.

The firebrand leader’s announcement came a week after he sacked Maritime Industry Authority administrator Marcial Quirico Amaro III for allegedly making too many trips abroad.

But Amaro insisted that his foreign travels were authorized by the Transportation department and were within hi mandate as agency head.

Aside from Amaro, the president has also sacked Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor chief Terry Ridon and Dangerous Drugs Board chief Dionisio Santiago over allegations of unnecessary foreign trips. Duterte later said Santiago was removed from his post for criticizing a “mega” drug rehabilitation center in Nueva Ecija that had not seen as many admissions as expected.
