International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde would change her mind on monetary policies because of a kiss, President Rodrigo Duterte joked Tuesday (May 9).
During the presentation of New Generation Currency banknotes and coins in Malacanang, Duterte told officials of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to “keep on pumping money even if there is no value at all.”
“Alam mo ‘yan si Lagarde, nakita ko ‘yan si… Just pull her into a corner halikan mo lang, p***** i** mag-iba ang isip niyan. She’s quite old but she’s good. I met her several times,” he said.
Duterte said he would like to ask Lagarde about the bases for the IMF’s classification of rich and poor countries.
“I’m tempted to ask what’s the standard of your classification, how rich and poor we are, or the enterprises of the world,” he said.
Duterte likely met Lagarde when he went to Vietnam in November last year for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
During the event, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque posted a photo of him with Lagarde, in which he mistakenly identified the IMF chief as “Agnes Legarda.”
