President Rodrigo Duterte took advantage of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s 60th birthday to poke fun about his plan to be married for the second time.
During the party held at Tagum City Friday (January 12), Duterte told Alvarez: “Mr. Speaker, I hope that you are married for the last time.”
Earlier this month, Alvarez said in a television interview that he’s willing to marry his girlfriend, Jennifer Maliwanag Vicencio, even though he’s still legally married to his wife.
The Speaker claimed he can marry multiple times because he is a member of the Manobo tribe in Mindanao.
In his speech, Duterte thanked Alvarez for having his back during the campaign period for the 2016 elections.
“But today, I would like God — thank God to… to having you as a friend and a very — maski saan-saan ka nung kampanya, buong Pilipinas, not until after he decided also to run na nawala sila but most of the time, they were with me in the campaign,” he said.
Duterte revealed that Alvarez had asked him to run for president as early as 2013 because he felt that the then-Davao City mayor could win. – Politiko-
