Sen. Richard Gordon said President Rodrigo Duterte’s stern warning to University of the Philippines (UP) students to stop joining street demonstrations or be replaced with bright students from the indigenous peoples (IP) sector was just “payo’’ (advice).
Gordon argued that, since they are studying in a state-owned university, UP students should instead focus their attention on their studies.
“If UP students keep on demonstrating, what about the poor but bright students from the IP sector who could not enter UP or other SUCs (state-owned universities and colleges)?,” Gordon asked.
A UP alumnus himself, Gordon recalled that UP students joined the revolutionary left because they have different points of view. – Manila Bulletin –
