The Iloilo River Esplanade was awarded as Best Landscape Design under the category Institutional projects such as parks, plazas, and esplanades by Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA) recently.
It bested other seven finalists from among the 30 entries submitted and selected by five judges who are professionals in landscape design and architecture and practicing urban design in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
Iloilo River Esplanade projects are showcase of successful best practice, according to its world-renowned designer.
“Iloilo River Esplanade is a very visible initiative. It was designed well, although there were challenges but thankfully, after three months of designing and bidding, we were able to make it possible. Esplanade is for all Ilonggos, they just have to do their part in maintaining the cleanliness of the place,” stressed Architect Paulo Alcazaren.
Other categories for the biennial competition were residential grounds, campuses, condominium facilities, and private developments.
The 1.2-kilometer Esplanade 1 was opened in 2012 stretching from Diversion Road to Carpenter Bridge in Mandurriao district where people can walk, jog and have some picnic. It was then linked to Esplanade 2 in Molo district.
