Jeepney fare hike ₱9: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday signed the order giving the go-signal for jeepney drivers plying certain routes to provisionally increase their fares effective immediately.
The provisional fare increase of P1 for the first four kilometers — from P8 to P9 — will be implemented for jeepneys plying Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon routes.
Transport officials first announced the news on Wednesday, but a copy of the order was not ready yet, which meant the provisional fare hike could not take effect yet.
LTFRB Chair Martin Delgra earlier said the LTFRB consulted with the National Economic and Development Authority and factored in the rise of oil prices in deciding on the provisional fare increase.
The last time a fare increase for jeepneys was approved was in February 2017.
Jeepney drivers previously asked for a fare increase of as high as ₱4 in May, citing the steady rise of fuel prices.
