A 23-year-old public school teacher was stabbed and hacked dead inside the principal’s office on Tuesday evening while her two pupils’ injured. Mayvell Barcia-Gonzales, spokesman for the police provincial command in Albay, identified the victim as Mylene Veras-Durante, 23, of Barangay Alnay, Polangui town in Albay who was assigned to the Oringon Elementary School in Pio Duran town.
Gonzales said the teacher and two Grade 6 pupils were sleeping when the suspect, a grade 8 student, entered the principal’s office. Police investigators said there were signs of struggle inside the principal’s office, which also served as sleeping quarters for teachers.
Investigators surmised that there was an attempt to rape the teacher, citing the victim’s unzipped shorts. Gonzales said the teacher tried to shield the pupils from harm. The pupils were able to escape to an adjacent room.
The suspect who killed 23-year-old Mylene Veras Durante last night was apprehended by police authorities (Pio Duran Police and Albay Police Provincial Office) few minutes ago. Suspect is a minor.
Mylene is a public school teacher, a wife, and a mother. Her body was discovered bathing in her own blood at Oringon Elementary School in Pio Duran Albay.
In her early years of teaching prior to her DepEd employment, Mylene also worked at Sta. Monica Academy in Baao (now La Consolacion College of Rinconada).
