750 MRT passengers unloaded after train smelled of something burning

Passengers of a southbound train of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) were unloaded on Thursday night after it smelled of something burning.

According to an advisory from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), some 750 passengers were unloaded at Cubao station at 8 p.m.

They were loaded in the next train which arrived after nine minutes.

The DOTr said the possible cause could be “faulty electrical components.” The agency said there was no indication of anything wrong in the diagnostic panel.

As for remedial measures, the DOTr cited the need for “preventive maintenance and replacement of electrical components and ensure availability of spare parts.”
