Coast Guard apprehends fisherman for illegal fishing in Siquijor

Illegal fishing in Siquijor: Personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Siquijor together with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources apprehended fisherman while conducting illegal fishing activity off Barangay Tambisan, San Juan, Siquijor on 13 August.

CGSS Siquijor and BFAR personnel onboard Aluminum Boat (AB) 102 conducted seaborne patrol at vicinity waters off San Juan, Siquijor. The team challenged all watercraft engaged in fishing activities therein and successfully intercepted an unnamed motor banca.

An onboard fisherman was Richard D Sumagang, 27-year-old and resident of Barangay Caticugan, Siquijor. He was apprehended for violating the Municipal Ordinance Number 631 Section 11 or “The Comprehensive Coastal Enforcement Ordinance Using Trammel Net.”

The fisherman was detained and released after 12 hours. Moreover, his motor banca and trammel nets were confiscated by BFAR to be used as evidence in filing the corresponding cases.
