Folded umbrellas will now be allowed as carry-on in airplanes, transportation officials said Sunday.

The Office of Transportation Security of the Department of Transportation on Sunday announced it will be easing the prohibition on bringing folded umbrellas inside airplanes.

OTS said that folded umbrellas are now allowed in both carry-on and checked baggage.

“The Office of Transportation Security of the Department of Transportation on Sunday announced it will be easing the prohibition on the carriage of folded umbrellas in cabin and checked baggage,” OTS said in its Facebook post.

Cane umbrellas, on the other hand, are still prohibited for carry-on bags.

The prohibition was made as some umbrellas have sharp and pointed components and may be considered dangerous for carry-on baggage, the OTS said.
