Man builds ‘swimming pool’ out of banana trunks

Poverty did not prevent a man from granting the request of his seven-year-old granddaughter of having a swimming pool in their place in Barangay Baybayog here.

Lacking the resources to purchase the inflatable types, Edgar Guiyab Paet used his little experience as a carpenter to put together a pool for his grandchild.

Paet gathered trunks of banana trees and a used tarpaulin in creating a makeshift swimming pool that could accommodate three kids at the same time.

“Kahit anong hirap ng buhay kung para sa pamilya ko, lalo na para sa apo ko, gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko, (No matter how much hardship we go through in life, if it’s for my family, especially if it is for my granddaughter, I will do whatever I can),” said Paet whose wife is a street vendor here.

Alcala is a 3rd class municipality in Cagayan with a population of about 40,000 and is famous for its milk candy.
