Tougher restrictions eyed amid Delta threat

President Rodrigo Duterte said stricter restrictions might be imposed to curb the spread of the more contagious Delta variant of Covid-19.

In his public address on Monday, Duterte said the government may have to implement tougher measures to prevent mass gatherings and super spreader events.

The Philippines has reported 35 Delta cases. Three died.

“The reported local cases in the country is a cause for serious alarm and concern.

We may need to impose stricter restrictions to avoid mass gatherings, super spreader events,” Duterte said.

The President urged Filipinos to get vaccinated so they will be protected against the Delta variant, which is more “aggressive and deadly.”

“You must get a vaccine or you die. Kung ayaw ninyo maniwala, ‘wag na lang kayo lumabas ng bahay para di kayo makahawa (If you don’t want to believe that, don’t get out of your house so you will not infect others),” Duterte said.
