Filipino maid’s body found in freezer : Police found stab wounds on Filipino maid’s neck and torture marks on her body; Lebanese man and Syrian wife who fled over a year ago are prime suspects.

Police in Kuwait found the body of a Filipino domestic worker in a freezer in an apartment in Salmiya.

Officers went to the apartment on Tuesday after a court order was issued to evict the tenants there, Kuwait Times reported.

The tenants leasing the apartment reportedly left Kuwait in November 2016 and it had been closed since then. When the police arrived, they discovered the woman’s corpse in the freezer.

The police said there were stab wounds on her neck and torture marks across her body. She was reportedly strangled to death while being tortured.

The Kuwait Times made an inquiry to the Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, Rene Villa, but the official said they could not confirm the nationality of the deceased.

Police have reportedly said that a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife are the prime suspects in the murder case, as they were the last tenants in the apartment.

The man was already wanted by the police for several cases related to dud cheques, Arab Times reported.

The Duterte government in Manila recently implemented a ban on Filipinos working in Kuwait because of the high incidence of abuse, sexual harassment and a series of deaths.

More than a quarter of a million Filipinos work in the small state in Middle East, over half of them maids.
